Eating too many tomatoes can cause joint pain. That’s because tomatoes have an alkaloid called solanine, which builds up calcium in the tissues. Too much build up can cause inflammation, pain, and swelling in the joints.
Some individuals experience kidney issues.
As mentioned in the previous point, tomatoes lead to a calcium build-up in the body. Add to that the fact that tomatoes are also rich in something called oxalate — a substance that is not metabolized easily when consumed in excess — and it might result in kidney stones. Tomatoes are also rich in potassium, which can impair kidney function. If you already suffer from kidney problems, be extra aware of this.
